I have been using Shieldhost for about two and a half years now, and in spite of the birth pangs my blog went through due to Shieldhost, its service had improved a lot in recent times. It did not take me long to sort out all the problems that I had in the first instance, and whenever I needed support it came through quite easily. The only way to contact Shieldhost was through a support ticket or an email, and the few hours turn-around time was not bad considering I was paying about 2 bucks a month. Within the last year, they upgraded their control panel to cpanel, making it much easier to add subdomains, and do other web-admin work.

Now is when they have starting giving me trouble. I wanted to upgrade my account (to include more domains) and opened a ticket on 26th June, i.e., 15 days ago. In spite of repeated reminders, I am yet to hear a word from them – except for automated acknowledgements of my emails. How can this be happening? Are they closing shop? Other than occasionally not being able to access the server due to apparent downtime, my website is running fine. But, is everyone asleep? I looked up the internet to check if others are having similar problems, but other than usual bad and not-so-bad reviews, I found no news of serious issues. With no number to call for support, I am forced to take daily backups fearing the servers may go down any day. At the same time I am looking for an alternate host, that will get me better service and not cost me an arm and a leg. Anyone in the same boat as I? Any recommendations?

Update Mar-06, 2009
Soon after I wrote the above post, I switched to GoDaddy hosting
and have never had any problems whatsoever.
